Google is in the mood to set up a rivalry with the mobile giant Apple with its latest installment of Pixel 8. The phone looks very similar to the iphone, and it has features to allow payments with face identification.
The Alphabet Inc. protege Google launched a new lineup on Wednesday that had smartphones, earbuds, and watches. Their starting price for the phones has been spiked by a whopping $100.
Google’s Pixel 8 Pro is now at the same price as the iphone 15 Pro coming at $999. The Pixel 8 costs $699, similar to iphone 14. Patrick Hennessey, Google’s product manager, says that their devices are “punching above our weight class” with the upscaled cameras and displays at their latest price point.
Google is trying really hard to make a mark in the mobile device market. Despite the Android system running most devices around the globe, their smartphones have however resisted their claim on the market. To be precise, the company’s own hardware has only a fraction of the share of the sales worldwide.
In the US itself, Google has had 3% of the shipments in the second quarter. This will need to be compared with Apple’s 55%
Google has been selling under its own flagship for over a decade, but its venture into the smartphone industry with the introduction of Pixel made the effort stronger.
It has added a matte black texture to its phones with a temperature sensor that can work on objects as well as help read fever. It comes with a Qualcomm Inc. chip and an aluminum frame that will help make the device 10% lighter. It also has emergency services that are found on the Apple Watch.
The device is set to cost $349 without cellular and $299 for Wi-Fi that can tap into networks without an attached phone.
