How 6-hour per day limit of PUBG is a right move to curb the game’s addiction amongst youngsters

Player Unknown Battle Ground, better known as PUBG has become super popular in India and the youth is crazy behind it. The game was launched back in 2017 and since its launch, it has been able to attract millions of people towards it and it has been rated as the #1 game for mobile by many top websites. The mobile game has already got more than 100 million downloads from app stores and its popularity is increasing with the passage of time.

Here are some of the top reasons behind the popularity of PUBG

1. Interactive UI/UX

One of the biggest reasons behind the massive success of PUBG is its highly interactive user interface cum user experience, which has successfully captured the attention of people. The gamer will never feel bored while playing the game and will always find something interesting after every frame.

2. The Concept of Battle Royal

Developed by BlueHole, a Korean based gaming firm, the concept of Battle Royal was emerged from a Japanese horror movie “Battle Royal”, which was released in 2000. This concept of Battle Royal was created by Brendan Greene, who is the creative director of PUBG. The game provides thrilling and terrifying moments and the gamer needs to be very quick in taking action, otherwise, the chances to survive in the battle will keep on diminishing.

3. In-Game Conversations

Another best feature that you will find in the game of PUBG is its feature of having a conversation with your co-players and teammates. You can discuss your plannings, squad up and have fun while fighting in the battle. This takes the interaction level in the game to the higher level and the user never feels bored.

4. Unpredictability at Each Level

PUBG is not a kind of game where you can sit back, relax and then play, and also you cannot predict it. Every player you are battling with has the same goal as of yours and all are attacking from different directions. It makes the tracking hard on a huge map and the level of the challenge becomes difficult.

However, with all these amazing features, the mobile game has started to put to a negative impact on the minds of people, especially teen students. They spend their majority of the day by playing the PUBG game and have almost halted their outdoor activities. This has resulted in their lost focus towards studies and career and has created a huge concern among parents and teachers. The addiction level to PUBG has also affected their health and the people have started to lose their interest in other activities.

It has raised many controversies in the recent past and even a mother complained to PM Narendra Modi during his event of “ParikshaPeCharcha”. Many people have even complained about the game and requested to ban it from India. The game was even banned in some parts of Gujarat and VIT for some days. Also, the team of PUBG mobile has been assuring that they are working in the direction to control the addiction of people and limit them to play this game for a specified duration of time only. The step is essential because banning the game is not the solution to the problem, the simple reason is that today, PUBG has created the addiction, tomorrow, something else will. Hence, we cannot ban each and everything.

This change in the game can now be witnessed and in the past couple of weeks, the users have started to find a constant reminder of continuous play and a suggestion of taking a break. With this update, a user can play the game for only a duration of 6 hours straight and the game will notify you to boost up your health by taking a break.

When the user ends up playing for 6 hours, then a message is popped on his screen stating, “You Have Played the Game Today for 6 Hours, Come Back Tomorrow at 05:30 AM.” Also, another very important thing to observe here is that the restriction of play has been applied based upon the age of the user. If the age of the user is less than 18, then the frequency of alerts is very quick and the user will keep on getting a break message every 2 hours. The initial response to this was a shocker for many people and they started to share their screenshots of getting such kind of alerts over social media and enquired about such updates of the game. One thing that has to be noted here is that this update can only be seen in India only and the game is working really well in other parts of the world.

However, no official statement has been made till yet about this latest update from the team of PUBG, but this kind of move to curb the addiction of people towards the game is being appreciated by the critics and parents. It will keep the player connected with the game and his addiction to playing the game all day long will also be stopped. If this move works in a positive direction, then it will help the parents in bringing their children back on track and the gamers will also start to connect with the real world again.
