Final Fantasy 16 DLC: What’s New In These DLCs?

Regarding Final Fantasy games, we all expect to control a rag-tag group of misfits on their quest to save the world. However, Final Fantasy 16 dared to do something different that alienates a part of its fanbase – focus on one-playable character and create a Devil May Cry-like open-world RPG. I enjoyed playing this game with snappy combat, gorgeous visuals, and a good story. Now, I’m happy I got to play more of it thanks to the new Final Fantasy 16 DLC – or shall I say – DLCs

Final Fantasy 16 got two new DLCs – Echoes of the Fallen and The Rising Tide. Both are excellent DLCs that add a lot of meat to the story and its combat. However, are these DLCs worth paying for? Let’s find out!

Final Fantasy 16 DLC: Echoes Of The Fallen

Echoes of the Fallen is the first Final Fantasy 16 DLC released on 7 December 2023. It has a price tag of $9.99. Like the original game, you can only play Final Fantasy 16 DLC on the PS5. However, the Final Fantasy 16 PC version is currently in development and will be released with both DLCs in a single package.

Story

This Final Fantasy 16 DLC story takes place between the penultimate main quest of the base game – Back to Their Origin – and the final quest – Of Gods and Men. Therefore, you must play this after completing the former and before starting the latter.

In Echoes of the Fallen, we follow Clive, Jill, Joshua, and Torgal to investigate the appearance of mysterious dark crystals. Soon, their search leads to the cursed ruins of The Sagespire, where many secrets of the ancient Magitek War lay dormant – along with some of the most challenging bosses in Final Fantasy 16!

What’s New?

If you played the latest Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth game, you will be thrilled that this Final Fantasy 16 DLC lets Clive wield Cloud’s iconic Buster Sword!

Moreover, you get access to a new dungeon – The Sagespire. This new dungeon houses some of the best weapons in Final Fantasy 16 and some of the best and most challenging bosses of the game so far!

Final Fantasy 16: Echoes Of The Fallen DLC Trophy Guide

Final Fantasy 16 DLC: The Rising Tide

The Rising Tide is the second Final Fantasy 16 DLC released on 18 April 2024. It has a price tag of $19.99 – double that of the Echoes of the Fallen DLC. Ts makes sense since The Rising Tide DLC is the bigger DLC with tons more content.

Alternatively, you can download the Final Fantasy 16 Expansion Pass, which includes both DLCs in a single package. Moreover, it comes at a discounted price of $24.99

Story

Like the Echoes of the Fallen DLC, The Rising Tide Final Fantasy 16 DLC occurs between the penultimate and final main quests of the base game. However, you must also complete the “Priceless” side quest to unlock The Rising Tide quests.

In The Rising Tide, we see Clive, Jill, Joshua, and Torgal go to the mystical land of Mysidia to save the eikon Leviathan, the Lost, from a dangerous new villain.

What’s New?

This new Final Fantasy 16 DLC is the bigger one, adding the new region of Mysidia to explore and conquer. Unlike the base game’s gloomy Valisthea, Mysidia is more colorful and livelier, with new towns like Haven and many dungeons to explore!

Moreover, Clive also gets to face off against the final boss of this DLC – Leviathan, in a spectacular Eikon vs Eikon fight

Furthermore, you get to face off against new enemies that can pose a challenge if you are not cautious. This includes classic Final Fantasy enemies like Tonberries (and the infamous Tonberry King) and a new Final Fantasy 16 Hunt in the form of the Notorious Mark called Thalaos
