Following its official announcement earlier this month, Activision delivered on its promise to showcase the upcoming Call of Duty today. Now that we know more about Modern Warfare III, which is a distinct game than Modern Warfare 3 (2011), we now have its debut trailer.
Activision described the new game’s single-player narrative as “a new innovation that empowers player decisions like never before” and follows Modern Warfare II naturally. The campaign also offers a new type of mission termed “open combat.”
Gamers purportedly have the option to select varying gameplay approaches, such as utilizing stealth or adopting an aggressive gun-centric strategy. The missions are intricately designed to complement the more structured and sequential story missions that the Call of Duty series is renowned for.
Although Call of Duty titles have consistently followed an annual release pattern since 2005, Modern Warfare III diverges from this norm. Unlike its predecessors, it serves as a direct continuation of the narrative introduced in the previous installment released just a year earlier.
Consequently, the game resumes its storyline immediately after the events of Modern Warfare II, which was created by Infinity Ward in 2022. This year’s iteration of the game is being overseen by Sledgehammer Games.
“Our vision to deliver back-to-back Modern Warfare games has been years in the making,” Activision stated in a blog post yesterday. Sledgehammer Games and Infinity Ward have collaborated closely to produce a blockbuster sequel in the Modern Warfare franchise, featuring the return of renowned heroes and villains alike, from the beginning “of development across both Modern Warfare II and Modern Warfare III.”
Without being hindered, players will be able to advance in their advancement and load-outs while getting to know the characters and storylines better.
In terms of multiplayer, the game will debut with 16 maps (and at least another 12 will be added later), “hardpoint” and “kill confirmed” modes, as well as a brand-new 3v3v3 mode dubbed “cutthroat.” The multiplayer will be closely related to the game from the previous year, which is what a lot of people find most intriguing.
