Xbox Cloud Gaming Is Getting Re-branded To XCLOUD Soon, And We Are Here For It!
So, apparently, Microsoft has very recently applied for trademarking of the name “XCLOUD.”
For those of you who are unfamiliar, Microsoft originally unveiled its eagerly anticipated Xbox cloud streaming platform under the project codename XCLOUD but kept the official name as Xbox Cloud Gaming….. sounds quite formal and un-fun-like?!
The programme was first made available for beta testing in November of the year 2019 before being made available to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate customers on September 15, 2020.
The Xbox Game Pass cloud gaming service is free for Ultimate subscribers.
Official name aside, the gaming community always referred to it as XCLOUD only, and maybe Microsoft took notice of that and thought of trademarking it. This really shows that they actually take notice and consider what the people prefer.
As of now, the devices compatible with it, along with the ones going to be added in the near future, are:
- iPhones (iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max).
- iPads (iPad Air – 3rd Generation, iPad Air – 4th Generation, iPad Mini 5th Generation, iPad 8th Generation, iPad Pro 11 – 2nd Generation).
- Smart TVs (Coming soon to Samsung in the year 2022 or newer Smart TVs and Samsung Smart 2022 monitors through Xbox App).
- Windows Devices (Surface Go, Surface Pro 6, Surface Pro X, Surface Go 2, Surface Pro 7+, Surface Laptop, Surface Laptop 3, Surface Book 2).
Though nothing can be certainly said about when these changes are going to take effect.
One thing is for certain though the official name is a bit of a mouthful, and referring to it as XCLOUD is way better.
