MSI Gaming GS63 Review
It is time for me to get to the nooks and crannies of the device and review it properly so that you do not have to face all the things that others did! Here is the detailed review of the MSI Gaming GS63 laptop that you were looking for:
Design And Build Quality
Regarding the MSI Gaming GS63 laptop design, we can observe that it features a full-sized keyboard with a flawlessly designed number keypad with RGB LED illumination that can be adjusted for the keypad. For producing stunning rainbow effects in darker settings, you may even change the hue and pulsing of the lights in different patterns.
You won’t discover specific keys that you can customize regarding RGB. However, red is the color to choose if you wish for a better stable lighting option since it perfectly complements this laptop’s physical characteristics.
Display
The MSI Gaming GS63 display supports an FHD screen with a 1920 x 1080 resolution. The screen also has an anti-reflective coating as well for crispier displays.
You will notice that the laptop has impressive viewing angles and creates stunning colors once you boot it up. This gaming laptop is powered by the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Max-Q graphics card, which is good for gaming and watching movies at higher resolutions.
Keyboard And Touchpad
Going on to the base, MSI created some fantastic designs for the keyboard of the MSI GS63 Stealth-010.
This keyboard is full RGB backlit and enables 3-zone RGB color customization. This suggests that you choose any hue you want each zone to shine in, which is astounding.
The keyboard’s key travel is 2.2 mm as well. Here, key travel refers to a key’s distance before striking the ground hard. So, typing on the keyboard of this laptop should be enjoyable and comfortable with a key travel of 2.2 mm. Also, the keyboard should provide a good gaming experience.
Despite this, the MSI GS63 Stealth-010 keyboard has a sizable, slick-looking touchpad at its base. The integrated click buttons on this touchpad are responsive. The touchpad is responsive and precise as well. As a result, using the touchpad for navigating and cursor control was relatively straightforward.
Connectivity And Ports
One area on this gaming laptop where no compromises have been made is with the ports; each connector is functional and helpful when needed. The MSI Gaming GS63 laptop has many more ports than the ordinary laptop.
On the left side of this laptop, there are 3x USB 3.0 ports, 1x SD card reader, 1x RJ45 Network connector, and an audio jack. On the other side, it also contains an SD card slot and an SDHC card reader.
It also has 1x Ethernet connector, 1x HDMI port,1x Mini-Display port, and an additional Kensington lock socket. In this gaming laptop, there is a microphone input connection as well as a three-in-one card reader.
This gaming laptop has 2x USB Type-C ports, 1x HDMI port, 1x Thunderbolt 3 connector, and two USB 3.1 Gen2 connections when it comes to connectivity. The laptop’s Thunderbolt 3 connector can offer up to 65W power and enable the DisplayPort interface.
Battery Life
Many problems gamers nowadays encounter with a gaming laptop used as their primary device is that these devices cannot support the extended gaming sessions that a PC can. Yet we cannot contrast a PC with a laptop because it wouldn’t be a reasonable comparison. The MSI Gaming GS63 laptop battery life could be better, but it is also not terrible either.
Here, you will get a 57 Wh battery, allowing you to game easily. But, the settings you fix on your games are entirely up to you, as a higher level will only help your computer last for a while.
Performance
Regarding the performance of this laptop, it shines bright in some areas. However, it also falls flat in others, mainly due to hardware limitations compared to current-generation laptops.
Regarding non-gaming tasks, the MSI Gaming G363 excels in most tasks. I ran many apps on this laptop, like Adobe Premiere Pro and Blender 3D Studio. Both these applications ran fine 99% of the time. I only faced a few stutters and lagged when rendering 4k videos and highly detailed 3D models.
When it comes to its gaming performance, it’s somewhat decent. I say this because this laptop runs on the older GTX 1060 graphics cards, which RTX graphics cards have overtaken.
Therefore, modern games like God of War and Hogwarts Legacy ran between 30 fps – 45 fps on the lowest settings. Therefore, older games will run fine. However, you must play the latest games at the lowest settings.
Security
Additionally, a fingerprint sensor is seamlessly integrated into the power button. This convenient feature ensures the security of your data, eliminating the need for passwords or pins each time you access the Windows 10 Home Edition operating system on this device.
Is MSI Gaming GS63 A Good Gaming Laptop?
After the release of the previous generation Geforce GTX 1060 model, the arrival of the MSI Gaming GS63 has been eagerly awaited. This updated version boasts a robust 10-series GPU and Intel’s latest 8th Gen Coffee Lake CPU, elevating it beyond a gaming laptop to a versatile powerhouse for various tasks.
Impressive performance is a hallmark, encompassing both the processor and graphics capabilities. Nevertheless, certain trade-offs compared to other configurations limit its suitability for activities like video editing or professional software development, which demand more RAM.
For gamers seeking a capable laptop, the MSI GS63 deserves serious consideration. Exceptional visuals and commendable battery life complement its sleek, lightweight design. However, its slightly higher price tag and limited upgrade options warrant consideration.
Equipped with a six-core Intel Core i7-8750H processor and 16GB of RAM, the MSI GS63 stands as one of this year’s most potent laptops. Its vibrant display, dependable battery performance, and an array of ports add to its appeal. Despite a weight of 2.3 kg (0.27 kg more than the Pro), it ranks among the lightest 15-inch laptops, ensuring portability.
While not excelling in any single aspect, this laptop strikes a balance between size and performance that’s hard to match. It may not be the lightest or thinnest 15-inch gaming laptop, yet it delivers solid gaming capabilities and respectable battery life, given its dimensions.
Notably, it stands out by offering an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 Max-Q graphics card at this price point, delivering ample graphical power for 1080p gaming and maintaining strong thermal performance.
Final Verdict: Is The MSI Gaming GS63 Worth Buying In 2023?
After using this laptop, I can say that this is a pretty good laptop, albeit with older hardware. If you are not a serious gamer and plan to play some older or less-demanding games, this laptop will do the job perfectly.
However, I think the $1,499 price point of the MSI GS63 is a bit too high because it runs on older hardware.
PROS | CONS |
➕Decent Performance | ➖A Bit Too Expensive |
➕Well-lit RGB Keyboard | ➖Runs On Older Hardware |
➕Crisp Display |
