Grok, Musk’s xAI Chatbot, Set To Debut For X Premium+ Subscribers Next Week

Elon Musk, owner of X, has confirmed that the company’s chatbot, Grok, will be accessible to all Premium+ subscribers starting next week. Despite Musk’s previous uncertain timelines, code developments within X’s app indicate that the integration of Grok is already in progress.

Screenshots shared by app researcher Nima Owji reveal Grok’s presence on X’s web app, with an invite for non-subscribers to upgrade for access. Grok, positioned as X’s response to ChatGPT and others, promises a unique personality. It boasts a witty and rebellious demeanor and the ability to tackle “spicy” questions other AI systems reject.

Grok’s differentiation goes beyond personality; it will tap into real-time knowledge via the xAI platform. This addition aims to boost sign-ups for X’s Premium+ subscription, part of the revamped Twitter Blue, which now includes three tiers to cater to varying user preferences and needs.

The arrival of Grok in the Premium+ tier could attract a broader audience, contributing to additional revenue at a crucial time for X. The platform is grappling with advertiser concerns and a shift in the wake of antisemitic content issues, prompting Musk’s push for new features and subscription offerings.

In a notable twist, Grok’s debut coincides with drama at OpenAI, with CEO Sam Altman’s temporary ousting and subsequent return, creating industry buzz. Musk and Altman, previously connected through OpenAI, have exchanged jabs on social media regarding Grok’s comedic abilities and OpenAI’s censorship policies.

Grok, trained on a knowledge base akin to ChatGPT and Meta’s Llama 2, will leverage real-time information from the X platform and have the capability to search the web for updates on various topics. As the chatbot gears up for its official release, it adds an intriguing layer to X’s evolving landscape, combining AI innovation with Musk’s determined vision for the platform’s future.
