Introducing Snapdragon 4 Gen 2: Qualcomm’s Latest 4nm Chip With Improved 5G

Qualcomm recently unveiled the highly anticipated Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 (SM4450), which serves as a sequel to last year’s 4 Gen 1 chipset. This new iteration comes with significant advancements, most notably in its support for the enhanced 3GPP Release 16 version of 5G, made possible by the Snapdragon X61 modem. Moreover, it proudly holds the title of being the first 4nm chip within the Snapdragon 4-series lineup.

Although the specific foundry remains undisclosed by Qualcomm, this newer manufacturing process boasts improved overall efficiency, surpassing the 6nm fabrication of the Gen 1 chip (courtesy of TSMC) and the 8nm process used for the 480 chip (courtesy of Samsung).

In terms of performance, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 CPU stands out with its two high-performance cores clocked at 2.2GHz and six efficiency cores clocked at 2.0GHz. This configuration yields a remarkable 10% performance boost compared to its predecessor, the SD 4 Gen 1. While details regarding the Adreno GPU are yet to be released, the display support remains the same, offering up to FHD+ resolution at 120fps.

Furthermore, the new chipset capitalizes on faster RAM, specifically LPDDR5x memory clocked at speeds of up to 3,200MHz. Additionally, it provides the option for faster storage through UFS 3.1 (2-lane), enabling smartphone manufacturers to equip their devices with quicker and more responsive storage capabilities.

Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 (SM4450) chip is an impressive leap forward in mobile processing technology. With its enhanced 5G support, advanced manufacturing process, improved CPU performance, and faster memory and storage options, it promises to deliver an optimized user experience and pave the way for cutting-edge mobile devices.
